Allstate is Awful

I had been a loyal Allstate customer since purchasing my first car almost 17 years ago. After a recent move back to the east coast from a very busy metropolitan area in CA, I was dismayed to encounter not only significant issues with the service I received from Allstate (including the local agent), but also that there was no reduction in my premium despite living in a far less populous state. The first issue was service as I mentioned. I tried to simply update my new address information online; however, Allstate's online system is so incredibly archaic (one agent told me that they actually had to update on two or three different systems inputting the same information) and not at all user friendly. As it turns out, a simple change of address was not a function I could perform online. Next, I attempted to contact the toll-free main number for Allstate. I spoke with a customer service representative there and she indicated she had transferred my policy to NH and that I was all set. A week or so later, I went online to check my policy to pay my monthly bill and found that they had not switched me as indicated. Eventually I went into a local Allstate office and got a song and dance about how they have heard similar customer complaints about the "main office", etc, but there was nothing they could do. This is despite the fact that I had reported the change weeks earlier and was still having to pay the same premium. The agent at this office switched my coverage to NH. When I got my bill a few weeks later, I was shocked to find no reduction in premium as stated above. A few months later I shopped online for insurance at comparable coverages and was able to cut my premium IN HALF. When I called to cancel this Allstate policy they were "so sorry they could not have spoken with me sooner because Allstate had just changed all of its coverages and reduced rates," but they were going by expiration date and calling all their customers based on that date to discuss changes. My policy still had about 3 months left on it (no doubt this allowed them to continue collecting higher premiums, lining their own pockets and no thought given to benefiting their customers especially long-term ones with excellent driving records). It seems the whole story was false anyway because my boyfriend uses the same agent. His policy just renewed and no one ever called him from this Allstate office to advise of their great "reductions" in rates that he should have received. His rate stayed the same.

I highly recommend finding another insurance company entirely! They should be ashamed of themselves for ripping off customers particularly in this economy! Well much like the manufacturers of many of the automobiles that they insure, they'll soon find out what poor service and product leads to when customers use their well-earned money to voice their opinions by spending it else where.
