Besides the red tape of documentation to prove our son was a full time university student -with an insane deadline that if wasn't met, all coverages on all dependents and associate would be dropped. (Documentation being-Certified Birth Certificate, Letter from Registrar's office, his "Official" Transcript, class schedule, copy of tution bill, copy of paid tuition bill-everything short of a blood test).
Our first disaster was when my son had a broken clavicle that required surgery. First they want to point fingers at ANYONE or ANYWHERE he was at time of injury. He wasn't in a league, nor did anyone touch him to cause injury, he fell on an older broken clavicle that snapped the bone up by his neck. He wasn't on school grounds, nor in school related activities, they stop short of calling you a bald face liar detailing the incident. No orthopedist would touch him for miles due to Aetna. It took a 150 mile trip to have the surgery.
Now my husband 1 month ago suffered severe angina and was admitted to the hospital due to the severity. Of a 24 stay of observation, our part after Insurance payments are in excessive of $2500. He had hospital referral to a cardiologist in Lexington, only to be notified two day prior, the doctor and the whole Lexington clinic have dropped and no longer accept Aetna. Again, I'm the one hunting down new providers (do NOT go by what doctors/medical institutions they say they have in network-as they are getting dropped daily-we were told twice they are the worst in insurance industry for claims, and extremely delinquent in making payments. We have the cardio stress test today, they have pre-contacted the insurance company, our out of pocket expenses was in excessive of $1100 (this after meeting deductibles). We are absolutely stuck with this joke of a insurance company that you pay premiums for (and we opted for the LOWEST deductible offered) services that do not pay diddly squat. They should be investigated- I'm so sick of dealing with them I am a strong advocate of Universal Healthcare reform, perhaps we can preventative/medical coverage that hasn't sent us to the poor house.
