Don't make the same mistake that I did

I have been a AAA member for over 25 years. When they went into the insurance agency business,I had them quote my renters and auto policies and gave them my business. The policies were written through Travelers. The policies would renew each year and each year I would pay the premiums. And here is where I went very wrong - I assumed my agent, AAA, was looking out for my best interest. What would otherwise be a reasonable assumption is 100% incorrect in this case. They write the policy and never look at your file again. The quote from Brett, Supervisor at AAA Insurance, was "we couldn't possibly re-quote every file." SO they re-quote none. After a 13% increase in my renters policy this year, I called Travelers to ask if anything could be done and was told "no". Frustrated, I had the agent we use at my work quote my policies, assuming he would find a slightly lower rate at another insurance company. He came back with quotes from TRAVELERS at 15% lower on auto and (are your ready?!?!) 68% lower on renters. You are probably thinking that there are some extenuating circumstances - there are not. There have been no changes in the declarations/coverage limits etc. I now realize that this well-respected entity, one that positions itself as a quasi-consumer advocate group - is not doing right be its members when it comes to representing them as insurance agent. Do yourself a favor - avoid the mistake I made and have paid dearly for (probably for 5-6 years) - go to a small agency, one that will review your policy periodically. And if you haven't had your policies re-quoted in a while, do it - especially if AAA is your agent. While I am in my 40's so I have a bit of experience as a consumer,I believe this is the first time I have posted an opinion online. I hope this helps.
