Caveot emptor people!

As a licensed agent who is currently not active in the business, I had to comment regarding some of the quotations I have read. One example is someone saying they got a lower quote from a different agent using the same company they currently insure. Understand that rates are not arbitrary. All insurers in Florida have to have their rates files and approved by the state. In other words, if your HO3 policy is %1,000 a year with XYZ company it will be the same premium with any agent that quotes it. Agents cannot change a premium to increase or decrease their profit margin.

The exception is an insurer who acts as a direct and indirect insurer. If you call Progressive you will get a lower quote than calling an independent agent, as Progressive needs to add the agent commission to the premium.
Second point, the world is not vanilla. My ten year old RV and your ten year old RV would not be the same premium.

The reasons is additions or modifications. Just like expensive jewelery, items added to an RV, or a motorcycle, or custom car are unique to that car. When the insurance company figures your premium, it must be for the standard RV. If I added a canopy, generator, etc. it is not covered unless I tell the company and pay premium for it! That way, the guy who didn't ass all the stuff doesn't have to pay premium on what they do not own. The key to insurance is having a knowledgeable agent.
